If you're a current or former Boise State student, you're going to want to double check to see if your date was compromised.

Law enforcement claims that up to 3,000 people's personal information may have been stolen after an anonymous hacker breached BSU's computer security. Data that was mined may include:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Medical information

We don't need to tell you why this could be a pretty catastrophic thing for those affected. It could lead to identity theft, blackmail, and possible loss of funds. The leak is apparently tied to people who were associated with the BSU Athletics Department. Most of those affected have been contacted, but Boise State says they're having difficulty reaching out to about 600 victims.

It's being recommended by authorities that if you believe you were affected by the data leak, you should double check your bank accounts and credit card accounts for any suspicious activity.
