You're already staying up late to watch the Olympics, why not stay up a little later to see a sky full of shooting stars?

According to NASA predictions, tonight will be the peak of the annual Perseid Meteor shower and it'll be unlike any other year.  The Perseid Meteor shower happens every August when the earth's rotation around the sun crosses debris from a comet, but this year there's some extra gravitational forces that pushed Earth further into the debris trail so there could be twice as many meteors than in the past.

Want to watch the show? You don't need a telescope or any special equipment to see it.  Just look toward the Northeast part of the sky between 1 and 5 a.m. The further you can get away from city lights, the more you'll see!

According to the National Weather Service, this is the optimum sweet spot during that time window:
