Idaho Police Urge Drivers to Hit the Brakes in Construction Zones
It's that time of the year again: no snow on the ground and lots of reasons to take advantage of the wide open and dry roads! Boise Police see a lot this time of year and often times--it's tragic.
Taking advantage of clear road conditions--all to drive fast--is usually not a great idea.
If you have found yourself driving on Interstate 84 particularly during the morning commute, you'll know exactly what we're talking about. Between Nampa and Boise, the speed limit is 65 miles per hour-- but is anybody actually going that speed? It seems if you want to keep up, you need to be driving at least 10 or 15 miles per hour OVER the speed limit or you're going to be getting passed (and honked at) dangerously.
In a recent post from the Idaho State Police Department, authorities reminded drivers that not only is the speed limit to be followed on Interstate 84-- but that there are currently multiple 'construction zones' along interstate that not only warrant higher fines--but add an increased danger to drivers and workers.
The Idaho State Police wrote:
It’s no secret the Idaho Transportation Department has construction projects going on statewide. Yesterday, troopers conducted a work zone safety emphasis in Canyon County. During the emphasis, a trooper observed a GMC Yukon traveling 100 mph in a posted 55 mph construction zone. The 19-year-old driver admitted to making several unsafe lane changes to pass other vehicles. The driver was charged with reckless driving and faces suspended driving privileges, fines, and possible jail time upon conviction. We want to remind all drivers to slow down in construction zones.
That fast at ay point is insane--but in a construction zone? Yikes.
Modified traffic patterns, reduced lane speeds, and folks work on the sides of the roads all call for EXTRA attention and reduced speed!
Take your time while commuting, keep your eyes on the road, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and we'll see you on the roads, Boise!
