Once, tycoon and billionaire Warren Buffett was asked what his secret to success was.

Pointing to a large stack of books behind him, Buffett allegedly launched into a now famous monologue.

"Read 500 pages, like these, every day," Buffett challenged. "That's how knowledge works. It builds up. It's compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will..."

And so the legend goes.

Quartz.com writer Charles Chu recently did the math, and concluded that the time most American's spend on social media could be spent achieving this goal.

Let's take a look at the numbers.

The average American reads 200-400 words per minute. Typical non-fiction books have approx. 50,000 words.

That means, 200 books contains 10 million words. 10 million words, would take the average reader 25,000 minutes. That equals 417 hours.

FOUR HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN HOURS A YEAR.

Sounds crazy right?

Allegedly, the average single American spends 608 hours on social media, 1642 hours viewing television for a total of 2250 hours a year absorbing multimedia content.

YOU CAN DO IT. That's 1.09 hours reading every day!

In order to achieve this, Chu suggests a few admittedly underwhelming lifestyle changes.

1. Change your environment: Make it easy for you to read. Turn your television around, tell Alexa to shove it and make sure that bookshelf is a prominant feature in your home.

2. Go multi-medium: Have a book next to your bed, on a bench or next to your toilet. Use apps like Kindle to allow you to take on, and take in, pages everywhere and anywhere.

We wish you the best, and we can't wait to see who joins us in this intellectual adventure.
