It’s very difficult these days to find electronic music that feels striking and fresh but the Dallas, Texas band Ishi does just that, creating songs that are incredibly well crafted, which feel bold and daring. Ishi performed a great show at The Linen Building for this year’s Treefort Music Festival and they'll be playing a show at the Neurolux presented by Duck Club on August 8th that's surely not to be missed. The band definitely has an 80′s and 90′s influence that comes across quite vividly throughout their elaborate songs. Just a minute into one of their songs you’ll find yourself dancing wildly to their wonderfully catchy beats.

I became very interested in Ishi when I first saw them perform at an event last year and I immediately wanted to hear more of them. I was suddenly captivated by the band’s style, their lyrics, and their terrific sense of interacting with their audience. The crowd went wild at both of their shows here in Boise and I hope that even more people will become aware of them soon. The band’s creative use of drum machines and synthesizers feels wonderfully exciting and their abilities as a band exceed those of other electronic groups making music today.

Both indie styles and mainstream aspects are combined into the band’s fun and lively tunes which make their appeal grow to many different types of listeners. Finding good music can be insanely tough nowadays with such an array of deposable garbage out there in the music world but Ishi is a one of a kind band that surely satisfies your craving for energetic, exciting dance music. Check out their album 'Digital Wounds' to hear just how great they are and don't miss their show on August 8th at The Neurolux! I asked the leader of the group, John Mudd, some questions about his influences and experiences playing and writing music.

Being that your music is very electronic, what made you want to make electronic music specifically?
'It came about quite organically. My little brother and I had been in bands together growing up. He decided to buy a drum machine and the journey began from there.'
What bands were you most influenced by?
'In my youth I was really drawn to punk rock & post punk. Sunny Day Real Estate, Pedro the Lion, Roadside Monument, Hoover, June of 44, Rodan, Face to Face, & Fugazi.'
What to you makes your music unique to other electronic groups?
'I would have to say our live show. I think we do our best to convey our ideas on the recordings but the daunting task is to capture our spirit/soul and that's where everything comes together with the live experience.'
What are your plans for the future as a band?
'Our main goal is to keep writing and growing musically. But I think traveling is just as important and that seems to lie the biggest challenge for an independent band. But Honestly, I can't complain, our home town of Dallas, Tx has taken great care of us through out the years and has made this current tour possible.'
How has your experience playing live shows in Boise been?
'I believe this will be our third time back to Boise and we have nothing but the highest regards for your scene, city, & the people we have met. People have asked me what's my favorite city we've played and I say "Boise" and they're like your kidding, right. I tell them it's the cleanest city I've been too and they simply kill you with kindness. Boise, don't forget you have something great! Love you Boise! Can't wait to party with you at the Neurolux on Friday, 8/8.'
