Pilots Are Flying Shelter Pets To New Homes In Idaho, WA, MT

As I am writing this story, a small team of pilots is landing in various states, delivering shelter pets to new human moms and dads and new pet brothers and sisters throughout the Northwest. The effort is to get cats and dogs in overcrowded facilities into loving company, in situations where people who are willing to open their hearts and homes to new furry friends can't otherwise travel to collect the animals themselves.

I was introduced this week to an organization that helps give pets a second, third, and maybe fourth chance at happiness, and they're willing to travel great distances through the sky to achieve this goal.

This small team of compassionate, animal-loving jet-setters works for a non-profit group called Wings of Rescue. They fly cats and dogs that have been displaced or stranded in disaster areas to awaiting adults who have offered up a space.

A Meta post from September 2 showed some of the animals who have been passengers on recent flights, along with the pilots who deliver them safely to new homes.

According to their website, they've flown over 24,000 pets more than 2.4 million miles for the chance to find good matches between people and animals. Animals are currently being transported from California to Montana, Colorado, Washington State, and Idaho.
