Idaho State Police: Last Three Fatal Accidents Have Involved Motorcycles

The Idaho State Police reported a response to the 50th fatal accident in Idaho during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. ISP have now reported 55 deaths on Idaho highways since Memorial Day. The actual death toll including fatalities not reported in an ISP news release, is estimated to be around 85.

The last three accident fatalities have been motorcycle riders.

ISP Report 50th Fatal Accident During 100 Deadliest Days in Idaho

With Labor Day coming up on Monday and the end of the 100 Deadliest Days in Idaho, the Idaho State Police have reported another fatal motorcycle accident. This is the third motorcycle fatality in the last week and the 13th since summer began.

The report is an update from an ISP response to a serious injury accident on August 25th, around 5:30 PM on US30 at SE 2nd Ave, near New Plymouth and the Oregon border.

A 2020 Toyota Tacoma with a trailer, driven by a 25-year-old woman and a juvenile passenger, both from New Plymouth, and a 1994 Yamaha XJ600 motorcycle, ridden by a 33-year-old male, also from New Plymouth, were travelling Northbound on US30.

The Tacoma slowed to turn Westbound onto SE 2nd Ave. The Yamaha, in an attempt to avoid the Tacoma, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic before it collided with the driver side of the pickup.

The rider of the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries on August 25th and passed away on August 30th. The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet. Both occupants of the Tacoma were properly restrained and uninjured.

The previous two most recent motorcycle fatalities involved crashes with Jeeps, both happened on August 28th, one in the morning and one that evening.

Two riders from Washington were also injured in a motorcycle accident this week while passing a semi-truck.
