Idaho State Police Identify Trooper Involved in Twin Falls Restaurant Shooting

The Idaho State Police have released the identity of the off-duty officer who helped stop the shooter at the Twin Falls In-N-Out restaurant in early August. The trooper is one of many heroes that day and has been seen in videos but hasn’t been officially identified until today.

ISP withheld his identity while they determined the effect it would have on the investigation.

While extending condolences to the victims of the shooting, extending gratitude to the first responders, and continuing their investigation, the Idaho State Police released the name of the off-duty officer who was inside the restaurant when the shooting happened.

That hero is Specialist Steve McClain, a member of the Twin Falls community and member of the ISP Commercial Vehicle Safety Program. McClain shared a statement through the Idaho State Police news release and asked the community to keep their focus on helping the victims and the Twin Falls community.

In a press conference last week, videos from the shooting were shared with the public. In those videos, McClain can be seen on security cameras inside the In-N-Out restaurant helping to clear the kitchen and drive-thru window area. The videos can be seen beginning around 17 minutes into the Facebook post.

While efforts were made to blur parts of the video, discretion should be used while viewing as it does depict an incident where lives were lost.

Vigils have been held in Twin Falls to help comfort victims and unite the community. Various fundraisers have also been established for those wishing to help monetarily.
