First off all you might be asking yourself what is Juneteenth? Juneteenth is observed on June 19th and is the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Recently Twitter and Square which are both run by CEO Jack Dorsey announced that Juneteenth would be a holiday for employees and now according to Yahoo Finance and Forbes Nike has stepped up and made the same declaration. Nike CEO John Donahoe said “ It’s an important opportunity to commemorate and celebrate Black history month” This move may come as of no surprise as Nike has been very active in raising racism awareness. Nike is the same company that released an ad that replaced it iconic “Just Do It” slogan with “For Once, Don’t Do It. Don’t pretend there’s not a problem in America. Don’t turn your back on racism”

To Nike, I send out a big salute. It’s good to see major companies striving for positive change.
