Lightning and a hot, dry day is a recipe for a wildfire. Multiple fires were sparked by lightning and one is still under investigation. This coming Thursday marks one year since the start of the Table Rock fire. We are officially in the season.

While we saw some pretty high winds and a quick rainstorm in Boise, other parts of Idaho experienced lightning that sparked wildfires throughout Elmore and Owyhee counties.

The areas in which the fires have been started aren't threatening buildings or homes and evacuations have not been ordered.

The containment on the following fires will take some time and BLM doesn't have an estimate at this time.

  1. Beet Dump Fire
    • Approximately two miles east of the Mountain Home Air Force Base
    • Approximately 1,500 acres
  2. Breeze Fire
    • Approximately 14 miles northwest of Mountain Home
    • Approximately 800-plus acres
  3. Chalk Flat Fire
    • Approximately five miles northwest of Hammett
    • Approximately 250-plus acres
  4. Ditto Fire
    • Approximately 14 miles northwest of Mountain Home

    • Approximately 16 miles north of Mountain Home

  6. Grand Fire
    • Near Firebird Raceway
    • Approximately 20 acres
    • There was an explosion heard in the area so BLM is investigating the cause of the fire thinking that it may not be lightning.

    • Approximately 350-plus acres
  8. Rattle Fire
    • Approximately 11 miles south of Mountain Home
    • Approximately 200-plus acres
