Earlier this week, we shared with you a TikTok going viral online that was shot right here in Idaho by a police officer.  Officer Silvester was mocking LeBron James' commentary on an incident involving police elsewhere in the country. The video has since received a ton of traffic--millions of views--and while some say the whole video is harmless and in good fun, others say he crossed a line.

Naturally, when I shared this online, I received all sorts of ad hominem attacks from folks online that thought I was saying the officer was wrong. My opinion on this all was never shared--I'm simply sharing the story and the news of the massive reaction it is seeing. It's even been on CNN now.

After a few days of this video stretching all across the internet, Officer Silvester's employer has spoken up.

In a statement made on the Bellevue Marshal's Office Facebook page, the department shared:

The Bellevue Marshal’s Office is aware of the extreme controversy regarding Deputy Marshal Silvester’s viral TikTok. The statements made do NOT represent the Bellevue Marshal’s Office. The Bellevue Marshal’s Office always demands that our Deputies engage with our citizens in a friendly and professional manner. This is NOT how we expect our Deputies to act on duty or use city time. This is a personnel issue that is being dealt with internally.
We would like to thank everyone that took the time to reach out to us. We greatly value our relationship within our wonderful community.
After seeing just how viral this video and the officer making them has gone--you can only imagine how many calls and emails that this department must be receiving to both support or complain. Clearly, there are two very vocal sides reacting to his behavior.
