New Blue Turf to Honor 2 Iconic Boise State Players, Alums
As Boise State prepare to enter into a new season--there is more 'new' than usual. Perhaps the most exciting 'new' aspect of this all? The Broncos will be entering a new conference for the first time in years; the Pac-12!
Along with the conference realignment comes 'the little things', like getting new conference logos on playing surfaces and facilities. It just so happens that Boise State has one of the most iconic 'playing surfaces' anywhere in America: the blue turf.
Yes, 'The Blue' is getting updated, too.
Along with the Pac-12 logo, which is a necessity, the university will be adding two small but detailed tributes to the field honoring two HUGE names in program history...and the NFL.
Ashton Jeanty and Kellen Moore.
The two were the university's only Heisman Finalists.
Orange colored sideline hash marks at the 2 (Jeanty's Number) and at the 11 (Moore's number) will mark the impact of these two on the program.
In a release from the university, the following was shared about Ashton Jeanty's legacy:
Jeanty cemented his place among the all-time greats with one of the most remarkable seasons in college football history, posting the second-highest single-season rushing total ever and finishing as the 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up. He was also the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award winner during the Broncos' first College Football Playoff season. The current member of the Las Vegas Raiders is the highest NFL Draft pick - sixth overall in the 2025 Draft - in program history.
The release also spoke of Kellen's legacy:
Moore's legacy is unmatched in consistency and excellence. A four-time first-team All-American and the program's first Heisman Trophy finalist, he led the Broncos to a staggering 50-3 record as a starting quarterback, finishing his career as the winningest quarterback in college football history. Moore, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator, is the current head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
What we love the most about all of this, was the wisdom that Jaramiah Dickey shared in the way he summarized he impact of the two.
Dickey simply explained that these two players didn't just win a bunch of games...they changed what was possible--the entire trajectory--for Boise State football. These types of players put the program on the map and show what's possible for future players considering Boise State against other places.
