Tactical Rescue Team Pulls Off Jaw-Dropping Save in Idaho River

Here in Idaho, we're surrounded by backroads, mountains, and 'tough to reach' beauty--it's part of what makes the area so special.

Traveling through the State of Idaho is beautiful--but at times, there's some risk involved. One accident, wrong turn, or slip up can be cause of an accident difficult to access or identify.

A recent single-car crash that happened along the Payette River and Highway 55 has drawn a lot of attention not only because of the tragic nature of the crash--but because of the rescue efforts and were implemented.

Our thoughts are certainly with the individual and their family impacted by this tragic incident.

In a statement released by the Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue Unit on Facebook, the incident was summarized as follows:

An individual who exited the vehicle became pinned downstream, foot-entrapped under a rock just below the river’s surface in strong current. Due to the length of time the subject was submerged, the operation was deemed a recovery effort. The subject’s location made the mission especially challenging, requiring specialized rope systems and mechanical advantage to safely free and bring them to shore.... A high-line reeving rope system was constructed across the river and used to position our rescue raft over the subject’s location. Once secured, the subject was connected to the high-line, freed from the entrapment, and moved safely to shore. Additional rope systems were built to raise and lower equipment and personnel between the steep riverbank and the roadway. The recovery was complete in the early morning hours.

It's no secret--these crews were trained and prepared--how lucky for our community and the individual who needed help.
