Surviving Valentine’s Day While Single
It's the most wonderful time of the year for us single people. Not.
Valentine's Day is this week and if you're single like me there is NO PRESSURE. No worrying about gifts, dinner reservations, big bar tabs, and finding the right flowers. In fact, for us, it's just another week!
This will be my FOURTH year in a row of not needing to worry about this stuff and to be honest it's great. I hate the commercial-driven pressure...BUT for many, being single on the most romantic day of the year can be a little sad. That said, there's plenty for you to do to still enjoy the day...here are some ideas.
OK--bear with me on this because it may be the most ridiculous of my ideas...
Valentine's Day is on a Thursday. So is Hip Hop Night at Roddy's. I've watched this night grow into a BIG party and to be honest...if you're in your twenties it's a blast. Meet new people, get a little crazy, set up the twerk wall. Whatever you need to do to take your mind off of being single, right?
This is overplayed and sounds simple but as I've grown as an individual I actually really believe in this. Treating yourself is can make you feel GUILTY but we've got one life to live and if we deserve it--why not? We work all week...is buying something you REALLY want that bad? I've had Sunday afternoons where I just want a real nice steak so I go get it for myself. It feeds my drive. Want a massage? Some wine that ISN'T out of a box? Treat yourself this Valentine's Day.
Yes, there's an anti-valentine's day and it's on Friday: National Singles Awareness Day. There will be parties happening all over downtown Boise and across the valley. Get out and have an extra nice Friday--it's easier to be hungover..I mean.."sleep in" on the weekend.
