It's an end of an era in the Treasure Valley.

Kmart made its exit from Boise when they closed their store at Fairview and Five Mile in 2016.  That bummed me out because that location saved my Christmas a few years ago when my cat chewed through the cord of my pre-lit Christmas tree.  They had a screaming deal on a new one and thanks to their online ordering system it was waiting for me at the store after work.

The chain once occupied half the Southshore Shopping Center at Parkcenter and Apple in South East Boise, too.  That store closed in 2002 and would eventually became a now defunct Gordman's.

The only Kmart in the area left standing is the Kmart on Caldwell Blvd. in Nampa, but that's about to change.  According to the Idaho Press Tribune, that Kmart store will close its doors in August. The Big K is one of the stores that Sears Holdings considers too big for their needs and as brick and mortar stores struggle against online retailers, they're trying to shudder unprofitable stores.

If you're on the hunt for some liquidation deals, the sale started on Thursday but they do plan to stay open until August.
