Traveling During the Shutdown? Idahoans Need This Free App Now

Temperatures are dropping in the Treasure Valley and perhaps you're finding yourself in need of a sunny escape.

Flying? Right now? Sounds stressful.

A weather escape isn't the only reason people might be booking flights in the coming days. It's also 'holiday season' -- we have Thanksgiving in just a matter of weeks and Christmas just over a month away. People are traveling to get home or to get to their loved ones for quality time.

In case you'e been living under a rock--the government is currently shut down. The impact on travel? Significant.

The longest shutdown in history has many airports feeling the pain of federal employees--like TSA agents and Air Traffic Controllers, calling out sick. This is causing long lines, flight delays, and difficulty keeping the volume of travel that we're used to, flowing.

So, what can you do? Nothing--besides prepare and hope for the best.

One app might be your best friend if you're traveling and navigating this peculiar time.

Simply called 'MyTSA', the app allows users to chat with TSA during business hours, see what they can and can't bring onto a flight, and most importantly these days: see estimated wait times at security lines.

Take a look at the screenshot below--we took a moment to look up the wait times at the Boise Airport and can see that at the time of capturing this, there is either no wait, or a 15-minute wait, to get through security! 

Even amid the federal government dialing back flights by 10% to cater to the travel hurdles right now--Boise is smooth sailing. At least at the time of publishing this.
