I got the "dirt" on how you can get some free dirt. Free compost dirt that is. The city of Boise is giving back to those who have made the composting program a success.

Why It's Awesome

Why would you get excited about free compost in Idaho? Compost is what you need to help things grow in your yard or garden. It's really high in nutrition, and is beneficial for anything you want to grow in your yard. Usually a "trash bag" worth of compost would set you back around $30. The city is giving residents "as much as they can carry" so, realistically you could get enough compost to easily save hundreds.

Where You Can Get It

The compost is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, that is, if they don't run out beforehand. Part of the city's compost give-back events, all Boise residents participating in the city’s composting program are eligible to receive free compost at these locations:

Idaho Transportation Department
3311 S. State St.
*Providing larger quantities*

Idaho Botanical Garden
2355 Old Penitentiary Rd.
*Providing larger quantities*

Whitney Elementary School
1609 S. Owyhee St.

Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS)
