Um, what's happening with firing squads in Idaho?

The Idaho State Senate has passed a bill that suggests shooting someone is more effective and humane than other methods. Yes, you read it right. We'll rephrase:

The Idaho State Senate wants the governor to sign a bill that would make a firing squad the only method of execution in Idaho moving forward.

Um, why?

Supporters of the bill claim that a firing squad is more humane than lethal injection and also doesn't come with all the issues of gathering and administering said lethal injection.

Um, if this goes down, when does it start?

If Governor Brad Little does indeed sign the bill, passing it into law, it would take effect on July 1st, 2026. So, ya know, don't go committing any crimes ever, but also not before next July.

Currently, only five states allow for firing squads as a method of execution. Believe it or not, there are actually other methods states are using when it comes to ending the life of a criminal on death row.
