With Boise State football season coming up quick, fans of Boise State athletics are going to be able to dive back into the "crowned jewel" of the university's athletic teams. Since the early 2000's, the football team has stood out as a success story that exceeded anyone's expectations.

In recent years, however, the shine has worn off a little.

A once dominant Boise State football program has grown used to losing "a few" games each season--and while many programs, even some of the largest in the nation, would love to be able to have a 3 or 4 loss season consistently, its a different game for Boise State who relies on not losing to be able to gain any traction nationally.

Enter Boise State's basketball program who has always been underestimated. Fans have been calling for new coaching for years and the arena was rarely packed.

Oh ye of little faith--with time, resources, and some faith, Leon Rice, formerly of basketball powerhouse Gonzaga University, as taken this program to the big dance two seasons in a row and given the Mountain West a run for their money.

The last team to beat National Runner Up, San Diego State, before their deep run? Boise State. The nation has noticed.

Now, a major basketball program that plays in a major conference has said they're looking to beef up their non-conference schedule. By adding Boise State.

As recently reported in Yahoo Sports, Brad Brownell of Clemson said to the press:

We’re in conversations with Memphis, we’re in conversations with Boise State – two teams that have been in the NCAA Tournament a good bit. We’re hoping to finalize contracts soon.

Just that comment alone shows the kind of respect Leon Rice has began to garner for his program--and while the games aren't locked in just yet--a home and home series with a team like Clemson will be HUGE.

Get ready, Bronco fans--football might be coming up soon, but the sleeping giant has been awoken at ExtraMile Arena!

Boise State's Most Underappreciated Star

Boise State seems to mean "football" for most, right? On a national stage, after all, it's the blue turf and the success that the Broncos have had on it that made the university a household name. What happens on the hardwood, however, is far from appreciated at the level that it should be. Leon Rice came to Boise State as a blessing from one of the most powerful basketball programs in the nation: Gonzaga University. Now, the winningest basketball coach in the history of the school seems to take immediate heat if the Broncos aren't in the Final Four. Spoiled by wins on the football field, fans seem to expect the same of the basketball program but when the investment in basketball is so much less than football--can you really have these types of expectations!?

This Former Nampa Basketball Star is ESPN's Darling

It's not often that you see Sports Center re-run a single play as often as they did last night. The good folks at ESPN could not get enough of the dominating performance by one particular Texas Tech player who left it all on the court. His team defeated Baylor-- the defending National Champion and the only remaining undefeated team in the country this season.
Plot twist, this player has some serious Idaho ties-- with NO offers out of High School, Adonis Arms played in Nampa at Northwest Nazarene University where he gained the skill set and the reputation to make his way up to the big time stage.
