Boise State Is Moving to The Pac-12: But Does That Even Matter?
Money talks, money makes the world go 'round, and money has completely changed the landscape of college athletics.
Whether it's recruiting athletes with lucrative 'Name, Image, and Likeness' deals or totally reshaping the make up of games as we know them through conference realignment. See some change? Follow the money.
A year ago, major shifts happened that seemed to leave Boise State in the dust. Major athletic programs from major universities realigned to new conferences that logistically and geographically made no sense. In some instances, generational rivalries were blown up or put in jeopardy.
For what!?
Money. Exposure. Things far above our heads.
Also left behind were Washington State and Oregon State--two well known universities that didn't have a conference home The Pac-12 became the Pac-2. A loose agreement with the Mountain West filled out their schedule this season.
Now, after an avalanche of late night rumors and 'reports' from anonymous sources: Boise State has found itself involved, formally, in conference realignment as it joins the Pac-12 in 2026.
The Pac-12, which doesn't even have 12 teams, is alive again. How appealing is the move? It depends on who you ask.
Boise State leadership says it's the best move that puts Boise State in the best position to win and succeed.
The fan opinions are mixed--and one resounding question remains: is the Pac-12 even that exciting anymore?
Also moving to Pac-12? Fresno State, San Diego State, and Colorado State. Is there anything exciting about these programs if you aren't a knowledgable Boise State fan that may recall some rivalries and close games?
Many say: no.
The Pac-12 sounds big. It is big. It's legendary! But it's time to be honest: the Pac-12 isn't what it once was without the Oregon Ducks, Stanford, Arizona, the University of Washington! Programs that have played for national titles, regularly. Because of the strength of conference.
The Pac-12, or whatever number they land on, needs two more teams to join and they had better find some good ones, otherwise, this is nothing more than a new logo on The Blue and "Mountain West Plus".
Fans online are reacting to the news and it's certainly a mixed bag of emotions so far...
