Boise State football, once again, has been on a roller coaster of a season. Now, as things "wind down" in the college football world, it seems that they're only beginning for the Boise State Broncos.

Last year, as fans may remember--the season got off to a weak start and after a mid-season turn around, the Broncos were able to pick up the pieces and end on a 'high note'--or at least, a higher note than most would have expected. The turmoil an change in the middle of last season was unprecedented for Boise State

This year--the instability continued.

After a brutal start to the season an at one point, looking as though the Broncos may have a LOSING season for the first time in decades, athletic leadership decided to dismiss head football coach Andy Avalos.

In the final two games of the season, under the leadership of Spencer Danielson in an 'interim' capacity, the Broncos have won their way into the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.

Assuming that the Broncos can win--their bowl game fate could pair them with a very interesting matchup--one that is 'full circle' for the program.

Experts seem to believe that in the LA Bowl, it's going to be Boise State and Cal--two teams that really don't have much history.  Why is that so compelling? Let's take a look at the coaches.

Leading the Cal Bears: Justin Wilcox--former coach at Boise State during the 2007 Fiesta Bowl run & a close associate to Chris Petersen (he even coached with Pete in Washington back in the day).  Along side Wilcox is another familiar name--one that Boise State fans were not kind to: Tim Plough. The former Offensive Coordinator here in Boise was raked over the coals by fans and eventually fired mid-season.  Plough is the Tight Ends coach at Cal.

This matchup could be VERY interested and VERY close to home for Boise State fans but first--the Broncos need to win against UNLV in the Mountain West Conference Championship.
