If you were traveling through downtown Boise Saturday morning you might have not thought twice about the usual closed roads and traffic jams. What probably made you more curious is how packed the capital was of marathon runners, with over 13,000 participants to be exact.

St. Luke’s presented ‘FitOne’  and encouraged everyone to join. It didn’t matter if you were running or walking. The weather that Saturday morning couldn’t have been any better either. For the runners that began right before sunrise, a slight chill might have been experienced but nothing a good scenic run couldn’t fix.

Although this wasn’t a full marathon (26.2 miles) the longest race being a half marathon (13.1 miles). The event also offered a 10K and 5K  for the ones that wanted to experience the race and still be able to get out of bed the next morning. The race started downtown Boise, at Capital Blvd. and Bannock St. and finished at Ann Morrison Park.

This full day of fitness is definitely for you if you enjoy taking in the scenic route. This whole track is packed with Boise landmarks, including the Idaho State Capital, Old Idaho Penitentiary, Idaho Botanical Garden, Boise Depot, and routes along the Boise River.

FitOne is a great opportunity to run through town and enjoy some of the urban running without the worry of getting hit by a car and breathing in all that car smog.

This was one of the most encouraging marathons one could experience. Featuring DJ Complex at the start hyping up racers and DJ Javin at the finish line bumping up the party. All throughout the course were family and friends holding up signs pushing their loved ones to the finish line and with your local radio stations; 107.9 LITE FM, 103.5 KISS FM, Mix 106, and 104.3 WOW Country blasting music along the way.

Organizers are already working towards planning next year’s big day!
