What comes to mind when you hear the words "Virtual Reality"? Something out of this world? Futuristic technology? The truth of the matter is, it's both of those things--and more.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with virtual reality technology at VR Tech Lounge in Meridian, Idaho. Little did I know what I was in for.  Having grown up with parents that preferred I "get outside" instead of getting hooked on video games, a reality of my childhood was that I honestly never owned a gaming system. I would play them with friends and THEIR houses--but I was never good. Hearing that I would be experiencing virtual reality for the first time I instantly thought "well, I'm going to suck at this".

What I didn't understand was just how natural the VR experience can feel, all while taking you and your imagination far away from what you're used to. If you've ever considered VR or just don't know enough, here are five things I've learned about VR since trying it out for the first time and perhaps you never knew as well.

    VR Is Educational

Sure, you can immerse yourself into games of just about any type--from first-person shooter to playing soccer! The educational opportunities however, are endless!  While exploring VR myself, I checked out Google Earth and walked within street view of my old college campus and even Madrid, Spain! There are other educational experiences that explore the human body and more!

VR is used in the professional world, too!

Yes, it's true--virtual reality is one of the most exciting video gaming options on the market these days. Did you know professionals use this technology, too? NASA astronauts and engineers use it to simulate space repairs and our military uses it to train our service men and women in various combat practices.

    It's Immersive...

Stepping into VR for the first time? Yeah, it's going to feel pretty crazy. The technology takes over nearly all of your senses when you get on the goggles and headphones. Afraid of heights? Hold on when you play a game that sends you 100 stories up into the sky and onto a ledge.

    It's Accessible

Sometimes technology that sounds and feels as futuristic as virtual reality can be intimidating. No, you don't need to drop thousands of dollars to have this technology in your home to enjoy, play, and learn. Virtual Reality gaming lounges are popping up all over the Treasure Valley and beyond for fun or even date nights, at affordable rates!

    It's For All Ages

Sure, the VR experience could be awesome for your son or daughters birthday but that doesn't mean it isn't for everyone. Never stop learning and experiencing things with virtual reality and I guarantee you won't regret it.
