A new cell tower in Boise means an easier time making calls, but it also means complaints from residents who were caught off guard.

Garden City residents are angered that they weren't notified about a new cell tower that was erected, but officials say that isn't the case at all. Garden City Development Services say the new tower, found off Mountain View Drive, has been in the works since January. There was a public hearing in February, residents living within 300 feet of the tower were notified, a notice was posted on the city's website, and it was also posted about in the local newspaper.

Therein lies the problem. Garden City officials say they followed all legal protocol and then some, but residents are upset they didn't get a bigger heads up, saying the tower is an "eyesore" and that the tower popped up out of nowhere.

For the time being, it seems the tower is here to stay, so hopefully folks living in Garden City can enjoy their improved cell service as some kind of consolation.
