How Long Can You Have A California Plate On Your Car In Idaho?
Oh, hey there, fellow driver! We see you have a California plate on your vehicle driving around our beautiful state of Idaho.
Don't worry, it's no problem.
For now.
Yes, there is a concrete rule on how long you can drive your vehicle in Idaho if it has a California plate on it.
Maybe you bought the vehicle in California. Perhaps you're leasing it. Whatever the case, yes you can legally operate that vehicle on Idaho roads even if the California plate has not been swapped out.
That is, unless you want to actually live in Idaho.
Here's the scoop from Idaho.gov:
If you're going to be living in Idaho for at least 90 days continually, you'll need to register your out-of-state car with the Idaho DMV. This applies only if your Idaho address is your principal place of residence. Depending on the Idaho county you reside in, you may need to have your vehicle inspected.
Pretty straightforward, right?
If you live in Idaho, you need to have an Idaho plate on your whip withing 90 days. Also, you may or may not get slightly chastised by locals. Just a warning.
