You're getting paid and it's the law. If you are making less than $47,476 a year, you must be considered hourly and get paid time and a half for working more than 40 hours a week.

The new laws starting December 1 are definitely a benefit for employees but not necessarily helpful to small business owners.

The current law mandates that anyone making less than $23,660 must be hourly. Now the number has changed to $47,476. If an employee is working more than 40 hours a week at that rate AND they (we - let's be honest) get paid time and a half for the overtime hours, it would likely benefit our employers to raise our pay.

Are you ready for a raise just before the holidays?

Yep, me too.

Debbie Kling, the CEO of the Nampa Chamber of Commerce says, "The greatest impact is losing the flexibility and limiting that person's hours to only 40 hours, which previously they were working 50 or 55 hours, so it's great for the employee but a little challenging for the employer."
