You're driving along the freeway here in the Treasure Valley and the road is wide open--how fast are you going? Everyone will answer that differently, but whether you're driving East towards Mountain Home or West towards Ontario--once you get far enough out of town the speed limit goes up BIG TIME.

Driving 80 miles per hour, even when legal, feels crazy!

For years, semi trucks have been held to a speed limit lower than passenger cars and most appreciate that for safety reasons. Those huge trucks going THAT fast? Can they stop? Is it safe?

Apparently, Idaho legislators believe yes they can and yes it is.

Just passed, new legislation that will allow semi trucks to drive at the same speed as cars--all the way up to 8- miles per hour.

Lots of bills that have been discussed during the legislative session have brought out polarizing opinions and this bill is no different. Safety groups say that semi trucks going this fast only makes roads more dangerous but advocates for the change say it will help with traffic flow.

What do you think? Expect this law to go into place on July 1st--and semi trucks will be going 80 miles per hour...if they haven't been already.
