Is Gay Marriage Still Legal In Idaho?
If you're feeling a little behind on the news as of late, you are not alone. 2025 has been an absolute whirlwind of breaking news stories, political news, and a vastly changing landscape for many of us. It's near impossible to keep up with everything, and to have all of your facts straight.
That being said, with major happenings in the U.S. such as the Department of Education getting gutted recently, it does make you wonder what other long-term decisions may be overturned.
Honestly, it has many Idahoans confused on if gay marriage is even still legal here. Let's see if we can clear things up.
Is gay marriage legal in Idaho?
Same-sex marriages have been legally recognized in Idaho since October 15th, 2014. Here are more details directly from Wikipedia:
In May 2014, the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho found Idaho's statutory and state constitutional bans on same-sex marriage unconstitutional in the case of Latta v. Otter, but enforcement of that ruling was stayed pending appeal. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed that ruling on October 7, 2014, though the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay of the ruling, which was not lifted until October 15, 2014.
Could the legality of gay marriage be overturned in Idaho anytime soon?
Possibly. The current administration is actively changing many things regarding the U.S. government, and to say nothing is out of the question feels correct at this time. Here's to hoping every American can live their best lives here safely, openly, and lovingly.
Peace and love.
