We got a letter from my son's camp that a kid had lice so all of us needed to take preventative measures. I instantly started to itch thinking of ALL the places my son had put his head the day before - including in my bed.

The second I got this letter, I had a mild panic attack. I had to explain to Colton what lice was and then he started freaking out. Maybe full disclosure wasn't the best idea when explaining lice to my 7-year old.

The house is now insanely clean (thanks Janice) and we have talked to Chris' brother Dr. Ricky about it.

This is the book I SHOULD have shown Colton as suggested by the good ol' doc.

Myths about lice:

  • It's easy to get lice. It's actually harder to get lice than getting a cold or the flu.
  • Lice can spread by falling off someone's head. Wrong. They are stuck to the hair shaft like cement.
  • You should cut/shave your hair off. The length of hair does not impact whether or not you get lice. It also won't eliminate lice.

Grab a box of Nix (or whatever lice prevention shampoo you'd like) and go to town on that little one's head. Wash the sheets, pillow cases, pillows and anything that may have come into contact. You may not need to if lice isn't in your house but I'm neurotic.
