Picture this: you're driving around in your nice new or new-ish Kia and your next stop requires you to park! You park, go inside, and when you come back to your ride--it's gone! It wasn't stolen, it just rolled away! Hopefully, you weren't parked on a hill!

A recall of over 400,000 Kia Tellurides is due to just this-- brake failure that may lead to your car rolling away while parked.

You may want to be able to identify one of these vehicles--even if you don't drive one! Here is a closer look!

We think this car looks pretty great!

Of course, a recall doesn't mean that a car is no good or that a car 'sucks' -- most times, it is a preventative measure that car manufacturers will take if a problem arises so that they can fix said problem before it worsens across more vehicles. There is no guarantee that the defect is on all vehicles and most times, the cost of the repair is covered by the manufacturer.

For the time being, Kia is recommending that drivers of this vehicle USE THEIR PARKING BREAK!

Models impacted are:

  • Kia Telluride 2020 - 2024
  • Production dates: Jan 9, 2019 - October 19, 2023

A direct quote from the recall documentation explains the potential issue:

The intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft may not be fully engaged due to suspected improper assembly by the supplier. Over time, partial engagement can cause damage to the intermediate shaft splines. Damaged shaft splines may result in unintended vehicle movement while in Park if the parking brake is not engaged

If you feel you may be impacted but haven't already been contacted by Kia, make sure that you contact a local Kia dealership for more information.
