Without going into too much detail, radio is a small world and moving from city to city is not rare in our profession.  I fell in love with this business at age 14, a freshman at Bishop Kelly High School when Joe E. King, our Director of Brand Management here at 103.5 KISS FM hired me on to work in promotions.  I caught "the bug" as some call it and I love that my job rarely feels like a job.

The new guy here, I spent my last 4 years up in Spokane, Washington earning my bachelors degree from Gonzaga University and working in radio there.  A year ago this week, radio crushed me.  New management came along in my building at the time and asked me to explain why I should keep my job.  I stated my case and was told, and I quote "You're too basic for what we are trying to do".  That stung...BAD.  A manager that met me for the first time told me that, to my face.  Weeks later I was fired because there wasn't "anything for me to do" there anymore.

Now, I should clarify my last year in Spokane was spent at another company at which I thrived and worked with people I love to this day.  However, Being told I was "too basic" was such a bitter pill to swallow.  Any time I had a bad day, I went back to that ONE managers remarks and wondered if he was right.

Here I am now, in Boise, doing what I love with YOU on 103.5 KISS-FM and it's been one fun ride so far.  Working with Kekeluv has been an experience like none other and today he framed this for me--motivation to hang on my wall and look at EVERY single day before I go on the air.  It's literally the best gift I've ever received.  So cheers, friends, for being "too basic"!  Don't EVER let anyone tear you down...find that motivation and GET IT!
