It's been said that people cuss often because they have a limited vocabulary.

Well, it looks like that's total #$%@!

The good people at Scientific America write:

Taboo words hold a particular purpose in our lexicon that other words cannot as effectively accomplish: to deliver intense, succinct and directed emotional expression. So, those who swear frequently might just be more sophisticated in the linguistic resources they can draw from in order to make their point.

Now this is by no means the first study to parallel these results. Studies at Marist College and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, the Science Language Journal, and Dr. Richard Stevens all discovered that if you're able to rattle off more swear words, you have a stronger grasp of the English language in general.

So next time someone tells you that you sound dumb when you cuss, tell them to &*#$ your ^%@$!
