There Are Going To Be A LOT Less Idaho Potatoes This Year
Hey, kid. You in the potato business?
Ope.
What is going on with Idaho potatoes?
Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but.
This year, it looks like Idaho will be producing far less namesake potatoes than in years past. According to the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation, Idaho will experience a loss of about 15,000 acres of Idaho potatoes.
That would take production from around 315,000 acres last year to around 300,000 this year. We don't believe further math is required to tell you why this could end up being a very, very bad thing for Idaho potato farmers.
Is it all bad?
Well, no. Not necessarily.
Sources say that Idaho potato acreage (learned that "acreage" is a word today, cool) is down simply because of an imbalance between supply and demand.
Hopefully, we'll see an increase in potato consumption, so we can get Idaho potatoes back in business!
