“This Is Not Acceptable in Idaho’
Idaho home values continue to rise throughout our area. The average family in Idaho earns roughly 60,000 dollars a year. Some families earn more, and some make less. Most young families in our state3 are two-income families, where both the husband and wife work full-time jobs.
We all have seen home prices skyrocket in the last ten years. If you own a home or several homes, life is good for you in Idaho until you pay your property taxes. We've shared with you here, how rising home prices have reduced the ability of law enforcement to hire new officers.
Law enforcement officers are not the only ones who cannot afford to buy a home in Idaho. It has been well documented how rents in our area and across the state have gone through the roof. IN the old days, before the boom, if you couldn't afford a home in Boise, you would buy a house in Meridian, Nampa, or Caldwell. Now Idahoans are looking at homes in marijuana-infested Ontario, Oregon.
Idaho has forgotten about its people. In its zealous quest to attract big money from out of state, the state's middle class has been left behind. Has any politician currently running for office presented a solution to a state that will be unaffordable to the majority of its residents?
The following is an email from a young lady who shares her real-life fears that Idaho will continue to cast out its future for today's easy money.
I listen almost every day. But, what I am not hearing is troubling to me. My husband I are native Idahoans, we have 3 grown children, all-male, age 23-30. One of our sons is married, with 3 children. the other two are engaged to marry soon. All three of our boys are educated, givers to the community, but are struggling with housing. Why are we not talking more about our youth being able to remain in the state where their family is, their life is? This is not OK! What can people do to help our kids stay? There are potential grandchildren that may never know what "Home in Idaho" truly means. How can you keep listening to the "Liberal Steve", and the likes without addressing this issue? I am tired of the same people calling in to your show, trying to form an opinion on current politics. Half of them can't even articulate a meaning, or purpose to the call in.
Please, Kevin Miller...help us figure out a way to help our kids stay close to home! Our boys do not want to relocate, they are afraid of the possibility.
Is there anyone in public service who is addressing this issue? Please read and share this heartbreaking true story with anyone currently running for office. Ask them what they're doing to protect Idaho?
