TSA Discovers Weapon at Boise Airport Hidden in a Cane
"Please empty your pockets."
"Place any electronic devices in a bin."
"Do not attempt to bring a potentially very dangerous weapon onto this airplane, kay?"
(It's that last one that gets us.)
What happened at Boise Airport?
You aren't going to believe this, but we're going to tell you anyway, since it actually happened. Tuesday, May 20th, at around 9:40 a.m., there was a weird disturbance at a security checkpoint at BOI. It wasn't some altercation, or a distraught traveler losing their cool. Nope. Not even close.
Security had to pull a traveler aside because they discovered a stun gun hidden inside the shaft of a walking cane which the traveler attempted to bring on board the plane. You can see how this could cause numerous problems.
James Spies, TSA Federal Security Director for Idaho, had this to say about the incident:
The discovery of this shocking device perfectly illustrates why TSA screens all personal property and travelers for potential security threats every time. I am grateful to the TSA officer who noticed something was amiss with the cane, acted on their instincts and ultimately kept this item from making it into the cabin of the aircraft.
Luckily, the traveler in question voluntarily surrendered their stun-staff at the security checkpoint, and that was that. No huge fuss or major disruptions.
Moral of the story? DON'T BRING WEAPONS INTO AIRPORTS, EVEN IF THEY ARE HIDDEN IN A CANE. Feels weird that this is something that needs to be said out loud.
