This is a sore spot for all of us in this family. Well, mainly just my wife and myself because it happens to us so much.

You ever grab the eggs, meat or yogurt on the shelf getting it home just in time for the weekend. You have a specific plan for dinner that's when you notice the expiration date on the food is no good.

This is not fair! Why do you put foods out on a shelf that are old? Why does this only happen when it's too late to return? Can I also ask why it only goes wrong when it's something my wife asks me to do?

The dates, as we know them, have nothing to do with safey." - J. Kenji López-Alt

That's just great because now I'm completely lost. What should we do with expiration dated foods? It's not what you think because those ending dates don't mean your foods are really old. Looks like the manufacturers post those dates already taking in to count that we don't pay attention. I go nuts watching my son and daughter keep the refrigerator open or my wife when putting things up. We definitely break the time on the refrigerator because we get the lovely ringing sound. If you've never it that's a good thing! I'm lucky enough to have it all the time and my wife looks at me like, "What?"

So, back to that number. If they aren't legit what am I supposed to look for? Help a brother out already because my wife is beginning to look at my different these days. It's not like I'm doing it on purpose to get out of going to the store because that doesn't work. Help me.

Good luck! I'm sure I'll still make this mistake but I remember grabbing a month old milk in the refrigerator after a long night...just staggered down hallway...walked in kitchen...took it right to the house! You can guess what happened next
