We may be seeing a few less Mattress Firm's around town. According to a report posted by KTVB, Mattress Firm has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing up to 700 stores. This is largely in part due to an overexpansion. I'll be honest, I have literally had conversations with my wife about how surprising it is to see so many Mattress Firm's around town. While Boise is growing at a steadily increasing rate, I chalked it up to maybe I underestimated the need for mattresses. But I swear there have to be at least 3 Mattress Firm's on Eagle road alone. According to the report, more than 200 of the stores to get the axe will be closing within days. For many of us, that may stir up the thought of scoring a going-out-of-business deal. However, Mattress Firm has stated it will not be having a liquidation sale and will instead be sending leftover merchandise to other stores still in business or back to warehouses. To make matters more upsetting, the company is set to take a huge loss somewhere in the range of $150 million over this issue. Yikes! Hopefully 2019 will be a better year for this company and they continue to move forward dominating the mattress world as they always have.
