The LA Bowl Is Officially ‘Dead'; Boise State Fans Won’t Miss It
It was a peculiar year for Boise State Football. Expectations for the team were high--as they always are. Unfortunately, a season opening loss immediately opened the floodgates for the hate. Could this team win without Ashton Jeanty? Is there a a quarterback issue?
That narrative played out, nearly all season--even amidst some wins. Fans just didn't seem content.
All was not lost for the Broncos who went on to win the Mountain West Conference.
The team didn't garner enough wins or status to appear in their second-ever College Football Playoff but they did end up bowl eligible.
The season ended with Boise State losing in the LA Bowl, dubbed the 'Chris Petersen Bowl' to those in the know, because of Coach Pete's legacy at both programs.
The loss was ugly as the Washington Huskies piled it on, willing by 28-points...that's a four touchdown differential.
The loss in LA was nothing new for the Broncos or their fans.
Just two seasons prior, Boise State played in the LA Bowl for the first time and they lost then, too. Falling to UCLA 35-22.
Now, Boise State fans, who likely hate the bowl game, have no more 'LA Bowl Curses' to worry about as the game has been dissolved all together.
It's a shame to see it go. The game was hosted by 'Gronk', the former NFL star known for throwing a great party and was in one of the most amazing multi-billion dollar stadiums anywhere in America.
Attendance, engagement, and money just didn't work out.
Somehow, we don't expect Boise State fans to be too sad about it.
We would not consider Boise State's appearances in the LA Bowl, in any phase, among their 'finer moments' in program history. However, the program has obviously had plenty of really great moments over the years that have helped them be as relevant as they are!
