I totally blame Kekeluv for the fact that not only did I watch this movie, I DVRed it to watch it more than once.  Little did I know Lifetime re-made this movie.  It was first done in 1987 and is based on a series of books.  Did you watch it?

I don't want to give too much away, but the basic premise of the movie is Corrine (Foxworth) Dollanganger takes her four children to live at their harsh, nightmare-ish grandmother's house after the death of her husband/the children's father.  The children are locked in the attic to be hidden from their elderly, dying grandfather.  Corrine and her father were estranged for something unforgivable she had done at the age of 18 that ended up causing her to be written out of his will that would've given her all of the Foxworth family's massive fortune.  She tells the kids that they have to stay up there until her father forgives and puts her back into the will.  The kids end up being locked in the attic for years, where they grow and mature...and miss out on a normal adolescence causing them to act in think in ways normal kids don't.  There's poison.  There's illness.  There's marriage. There's death. But more prevalent that any thing, there's incest...a big underlying theme of the movie in several relationships.  And that's all you get from me. No spoilers.

I actually thought the movie was a really good drama/thriller/mystery and enjoyed enough to read some more about the original movie done in 1987 and the series of books it was based on. The series is VERY controversial and I do plan downloading it on my Kindle after work today!  If you enjoyed it too...Lifetime IS planning to make the sequel "Petals in the Wind."

Did you watch the movie over the weekend?  What did you think of it?  If you saw the original, did you think it was better or worse?
