I write this with a heavy heart. I knew this day would eventually come, and it has. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut Doug Martin. Doug "Muscle Hamster" Martin was a special player to me. I grew up in Tampa, and since I've been a child, I rooted for the Bucs. You know I must be a fan, the Bucs are almost as bad as the Browns.

Doug was one of the first Boise State players I ever met. He would come down to Cowgirls In Kuna with his friends. I wouldn't say I knew him very well, but we did have a passing acquaintance. I always made sure to take care of him and his friends when they came in. I also made sure no pictures of the team ever made it out of the bar, at the time Coach Pete was very strict. Over the years Cowgirls became the spot where Boise State players would go, and I got to see Doug more and more.

When he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round, I felt like my two worlds had connected. I followed his career very closely hoping he could get the team out of it's losing ways and back to the Super bowl.

That day never came, but Doug did make two pro-bowls and had a few 1,000-yard seasons. The guy was a hard worker, I saw it in every game he played. He was always very nice, and the guy could put down some shots. Speaking as a Boise State fan and as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fan, farewell Doug Martin. Thanks for the memories and good luck in your future endeavors.
