One of the greatest vehicles of growth and evolution in our society will always be the railroad and train systems in America. By far one of the most vital methods of transportation at one point in time, the rails were also how industry was built from coast to coast. Utah just so happened to be one of the place that rail thrived the most.

Now, a historic locomotive that is rarely seen by the public is making a tour through Utah--with a unique 'meet & greet" opportunity available. For free!

The expected locomotive is a classic 4000-Class Steam Locomotive--they're MASSIVE and iconic!

It's tough to visualize just how massive these locomotives are--but you can get a sense of the monster, below:

Wouldn't it be neat to see this in person!?

After traveling across the Western United States this summer, 'Big Boy' is on the way to Utah.

According to Union Pacific Railroad, "Big Boy No. 4014" is retuning to the train tracks to celebrate 160 years of Union Pacific Railroad.

Stops include:

  • Elko Nevada
  • Carlin, Nevada
  • Montello, Nevada
  • Ogden, Utah (Saturday, July 20th 10am-6pm at Ogden Union Station)
  • Ogden, Utah (Sunday, July 21st 11am - 4pm at Ogden Union Station)
  • Brigham City, Utah (Monday, July 22nd 9am - 9:15am at Forest Street Crossing)
  • Soda Springs, Idaho (3:15pm - 3:30pm on July 22)
  • The train then continues on...

This locomotive is a real historic gem--it became an asset in 1941 and according to Union Pacific Railroad "helped carry the nation through World War II".

A total of 25 of these were ever assembled. The one visiting Utah this month is the only functioning one remaining in the world.
