Is A Hot Dog A Sandwich?

Oh snap! The age-old question of "is a hot dog a sandwich?" seems to be settled by Merriam-Webster but people are NOT happy. 

Who came first, the chicken or the egg? It's the same type of deal. Nobody really has an answer - or do they?
