Last night as Mary Lambert was taking the stage at Knitting Factory, I told my friend how awful I felt that the only song I knew of hers was She Keeps Me Warm.  By the end of the concert I knew I was going to have to look up more of her stuff after hearing this POWERFUL spoken word piece she did.

Language warning for the kiddos, but the message is so incredible that I just had to share it.  A few weeks ago I shared my story of my struggle with body image and how I thought being skinny would make me pretty enough to fit in with the "cool kids" growing up.  It didn't and it almost ruined my life.  I was also was rejected or made fun of by every boy I had a crush on until my sophomore year of high school.  No doubt, that's played into 90% of my relationship issues.  A lot of the bad guys I got involved with here, I only got involved with because they made me feel special or wanted for at least a little while.  Those two uncomfortable factors in my life are why Mary Lambert's spoken word piece Body Love gave me chills last night.  She's so right about women being more than what we sometimes reduce ourselves to.  No words I could use would do her performance justice, so check it out for yourself!
