It's a season of change here in America. And we're not even talking about political discourse, we're simply talking about names!

The Gulf of Mexico has become the Gulf of America.

Cardinal Robert Prevost has become Pope Leo XIV.

Is it time Boise, Idaho is up for a name change as well?

Um, where does the name "Boise" even come from?

See, that's the thing. It's kind of vague.

According to Wikipedia, the word Boise could have a few different origin stories:

  • A French-speaking guide yelled out "Les bois! Les bois!" ("The woods! The woods!") upon first seeing the city.
  • French trappers nicknamed the area "la rivière boisée" (the wooded river).

Neither one super exciting, right? And, if we can't directly pinpoint where how and why Boise is actually called "Boise," should we consider changing the name altogether?

Or, are we too far along with Boise being called Boise, since that name has stuck since all the way back in 1863? Imagine having a grandma who is 162 years old, and having to tell her that you're changing her name because it's weird. Grandma would be so sad.

Let's connect and see what we can come up with.

No matter what you call it, this city definitely has some...interesting...finds when it comes to online shopping.

Don't believe us? One must spend only a few minutes browsing Facebook Marketplace here in Boise before you discover this truly unadulterated underworld of weird crap.

Sure, some of it's kind of cool, and could possibly look cool atop your fireplace. But, for the most part, where do people even procure some of this stuff?
