Where to Get Your Free Eclipse Glasses for August’s Total Solar Eclipse
We already know that you'll need specially made sunglasses to properly view the total solar eclipse.
Here's how to get them for zero dollars.
Before you think it's clickbait, or an attempt to tell you something, you truly do need a pair of eclipse sunglasses or you'll risk damage to your eyes (including the possibility of blindness). They're a real thing. Luckily we've found a way for you to procure some for your and your family absolutely free.
Starting August 1st, the downtown Boise Library will have 1,000 pairs of eclipse sunglasses to hand out for free. They're first come first serve. Youth Services Librarian Danielle Boyd elaborates:
The glasses are for everyone, so you can have as many as you want, grab as many as you need for your family and safely view the eclipse. That's what we want.
If the Boise Library is a little too far for you to visit, libraries all over the Treasure Valley will be handing out free glasses as well. You can get the full list here.
A few other things to note: Improperly filming the total solar eclipse can damage your camera gear and your phone, and you'll want to be on the lookout for hotels trying to cash in on people traveling to view the eclipse.
