There's an app in your app store waiting to help keep you safe that I would recommend everyone check out.

Just last week here at 103.5 KISSFM, we received a company wide email just warning us that it has been noticed at night, going out the back of our building may not be the best idea.

Here at the station we have a front parking lot and a side parking lot-- the side gets extremely dark at night and a handful of us, especially our promotions staff, work here in the building late at night. It was pointed out that while leaving work, there's occasionally someone sleeping in the bushes out back.

It should be emphasized-- no incidents have happened and everyone is safe. However, once that email came out, several other co-workers chimed in on the issue, also having noticed the same thing. Our managers encouraged late-night workers to park out front near the doors and watch their surroundings so not to be startled.

I did some digging around about this issue and learned there's an app in everyone's app store meant to add an extra layer of safety for instances like this.

First of all, make no mistake-- if you ever feel you are in danger, immediately call 9-1-1, no matter where you are.

However, SafeTrek, a person safety app in your app store can be a real blanket of reassurance if you find yourself walking to your car, your home, or any place at any time of the day.

The app is essentially 1 button and you hold it down while you get to where you need to go. If you let go, it's time to enter your pin number to report that you're safe and at your destination. Feeling uneasy? Let go of the button and don't type in your pin and it will notify our local police and list your location, immediately.

The app isn't free but it may well be worth your peace of mind. It's $29.99 for the year or just $2.99 a month, if you prefer.
