So, you go to the grocery store to pick up a quick microwavable meal and drink for lunch and you decide to use the self-checkout.

As you're paying for your items, you realize that you're short on "trash bags" (or if you're like some of us, bags for dirty diapers)... do you take more than one bag even though your lunch and drink will fit into just one?

Are we breaking the law and just don't know it?

On one hand, some can argue that the bags probably don't cost that much for the grocery stores to keep in stock. On the other hand, you could argue that regardless of cost, you shouldn't take more than you need because then it is stealing.

We contacted two major grocery stores in the Treasure Valley to get the truth about how many bags someone is allowed to take. But, what do you think? Do you think it should be illegal?

Should It Be Illegal In Idaho To Take Extra Grocery Bags At Self-Checkout?

We contacted both Fred Meyer and Albertsons to see what their stance was on shoppers copping extra bags at self-checkout.

Their answers were slightly different but ultimately they have the same message: they aren't going to stop you.

Both employees were super generous and kind by taking the time to talk to us, but at the end of the day - there wasn't much to it. The employee we talked to at Albertsons said that she does hope someone would say something if we saw our fellow shopper taking all of the bags because they won't.

The employee at Fred Meyer said that it's not really in their policy to turn down a customer's request to take multiple bags.

So, there you have it - it's not illegal and our amazing grocery stores in the Treasure Valley won't stop you from taking a few extra. Heck, you could technically take as many as you want...
