First Football, Basketball Could Be Next
Well, if we've learned one thing during this year and this chain of cancelations we're living through, it is once the precedent is set--everyone will follow.
Just yesterday, we learned there won't be any Boise State football this fall as the Mountain West Conference announced that ALL fall sports will be canceled. Now, rumor has it that a spring football season is being explored but I just don't see the feasibility. Prior to the Mountain West Conference announcement, the Mid-American Conference made the same announcement. To add to the list, today we're seeing the Big 10 and Pac-12 join--two MAJOR conferences that will surely set off more of a chain reaction.
Along with the Pac-12's announcement however, was a look at basketball season.
College basketball fans like myself have been holding their breath hoping that teams will be able to play and bless us with a 2021 March Madness. I don't like what I'm seeing from the PAC-12.
According to their announcement today, basketball will NOT be starting in 2020 but rather, the first of the year in 2021 "at the earliest". Again, a conference this size could really impact the basketball season for EVERYONE. Is it a sign of what's to come? As someone hoping to see Gonzaga take home a national title this year...I'm hoping not.
We'll keep you posted.
