First U.S. Case of Coronavirus Confirmed in Washington State

On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed the first U.S. case--in Washington state's Snohomish County and more specifically Everett--of the deadly Wuhan coronavirus that has killed six people and infected more than 300 worldwide.

Named after the Chinese city in which the first cases were confirmed, The New York Times reports that the presence of the pneumonia-like virus has spread Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea, with airports around the world screening passengers from Wuhan and North Korea temporarily shutting its borders to foreign tours as a result of the bug.

The AP reports that the Everett man, who's in his thirties, is currently in good condition after returning from a trip to Wuhan. Moreover, anyone wishing to re-enter the United States after traveling to Wuhan will have to do so through one of five airports that are equipped to screen them: Kennedy in New York, LAX, San Francisco International (SFO), O'Hare in Chicago, and Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta.

I grew up right next door to Everett in the next city over, Marysville. I worked at several coffee stands and a Red Robin in Everett plus got associates degree at Everett Community College. Scary to think about and glad he's in good condition now!
