Boise did it a few years ago and now Garden City is looking into banning cigarette smoke from its bars and some other businesses.

According to KBOI 2 News, the city council decided to start the process of drafting an ordinance similar to Boise's smoke-free air ordinance.  Since 2004 the State of Idaho has banned smoking indoors at almost all locations where you could find anyone under the age of 21, which meant according to state law you could still smoke at bars if the city you were in didn't have it's own ordinance.

I am not a smoker and am 100% for this proposal if Garden City decides to move forward with it.  It's rare that I venture out to bars beyond Downtown Boise, but a few weeks ago a friend of mine was DJing at Ranch Club on Chinden so we decided to go support him.

There was something charming about Ranch Club that reminded me of the dive bars back in my hometown and we had a great time.  I only had two complaints...I smelled like an ashtray when I left and because I have really bad allergies I was super congested.  I'm sorry, but the last thing I want to do at 2 AM is jump in the shower and wash my hair because it smells so bad from being around second hand smoke.  While one of my favorite people to hang out with when we're partying is a smoker, I'd be really happy to see this ordinance go into effect.
